Slovenians and Indian girls on top
The sailors hit the water at 10 AM sharp in order to make it to the racing area that is located almost two miles away from the Yacht Club. The cloudy weather and the light wind were the main characteristics today.
The first race started with western winds of around 6 knots. The wind was not very consistent and the sailors had to have their eyes open to spot the gusts in order to win precious meters. In the Optimist class Leah Govias from India crossed the finish line first, followed by Jimi from Indonesia and Peter Lin Janezic from Slovenia. At the 29ers the female duo of Varsha / Aishwarya from India benefited from the light conditions and beat the boys Ganapathy / Varun also from India.
Right after the first race, the committee hurried to start the second one, but was forced to abandon it due to lack of wind. The wind started picking up a few minutes later, but from the opposite direction. The organizers set up the race course again and everything was ready for the second race.
At the second race of the 29ers Ganapathy / Varun had their chance to get their revenge from the girls Varsha / Aishwarya and finish first, leaving them at the second place. At the Optimists, Peter Lin Janezic took the first place that also put him at the top of the overall results. Conor O'Beirne from Ireland finished behind Janezic in the second race and is now second overall in front of Toni Vrscaj also from Slovenia.
Tomorrow the wind is expected to be stronger and give the chance to the heavier sailors to be at the first places.
