A weekend of 2 halves with torrential rain on Saturday, followed by glorious sunshine on the Sunday did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the 20 sailors involved in the RS Feva open training at Royal Torbay Yacht Club. A large turnout of RTYC boats was complemented with some visitors, including one Oppy intermediate squad member thinking of migrating over to the Feva, all the way from South Wales!
Niall Myant (RYA Feva National coach) and Nathan Batchelor (Feva Zone squad coach) led the coaching with shore drills and excersises on the water backed up by informative briefings - whilst managing to keep the sailors enthused, the focus of the weekend was on downwind spinnaker work and communication between helm and crew!
The club put on an excellent supper for all trainees which made sure everyone was suitably fuelled for Sunday's antics! Sunday afternoon concluded with some races, ran by Bill Butcher from the club's committe boat, prizes were awarded to the top 3:
1st Rob McPherson & Jack Martin
2nd Jacub Barnett & Andrew Brierley
3rd Jovian Short & Henry Bower
All sailors who took part are intending to apply for the new RS Feva South West Regional Squad training this winter.
Thanks to our sponsors Atlantic Spars, to RTYC for hosting the training and to Adrian Peach for organising.
