Lynall Boats Phantom Southwest Traveller Series
The last event in the 8 open series was sailed at Chew Valley on Sunday 12th October.
The first race was delayed due to the lack of wind but was eventually started in a light NW. The fleet got off with a clean start. After the first beat Hawkes was leading followed by Young, Jay and Keck. Hawkes and Young were never challenged as the short race progressed. Due to an uncertain wind the race was finished after 36 minutes. The finishing order was Hawkes, Young, Jay, Keck, Barnstable and Chapman.
As the last boats finished the wind dropped away completely giving way to a stronger SW F2-F3 (yes, from the other direction).
The second race started in beautiful summer like conditions. The start line had a major port end bias which saw most of the fleet starting on starboard at the port end. Young sailed down the line on port but was unable to find a hole forcing him further down the line. Smith led the fleet away on starboard tack. At the fist mark the fleet came together and rounded closely. Young took the lead at the second beat of the course followed by Hawkes, Keck and Barnstable. Despite pulling out a reasonable lead Hawkes and Keck count Young. Hawkes passed Young on the run where they sailed closely until the finish. The race finished with Hawkes, Young, Keck, Barnstable, Smith and Tustin.
