Designed by Ian Howlett and John Caig in 1996, the Blaze is a one-design, single-handed racing dinghy with hiking wings, a stayed carbon or aluminium mast and a powerful 10.4m2, moderate square-top, semi-soft sail. A large, shallow, self-draining cockpit sits on a wide, ready-planing hull with pivoting foils. Originally polyester-built by Topper, the Blaze is now produced by Hartley Boats employing epoxy-sandwich construction. The Blaze is most at home on open coastal water and excels on a fully-powered reach for fast, exciting racing under a PY of 1033. 'Fire' (8.8 m2) and 'Halo' (11.4 m2) sail variants - same mast, same rig - paired with the wing design offer manageable handling for a wide range of helm weights.
