The first two races were held in moderate to gusty breezes. In the first race, locals Terry Mason and Ian Miller made the break, joined at the end of lap 1 by visitors Colin Hall and David Eales. Roli Huggins came through from last and along with Tim Davison used his knowledge of the river’s quirks to overhaul the visitors.
In the second race Huggins tried front running for a change, and led for most of the race. Davison swept into the lead approaching the last down stream mark, which Huggins hit letting Eales overtake within yards of the finish.
After lunch the wind rose from gusty to squally. Despite capsizing before the off, Peer steamed off leaving Davison to chase in vain. Miller, Hall and Andy Elliott battled their way through the main fleet to get clear of the general scrum.
In the last race Eales set an early lead, which took him to the finish, whilst Hall and Peer established a fair gap in front of the peleton. Davison did finally catch them to take second, and the Bossoms Cup.
With four separate winners, and a fascinating day’s racing, thanks must go to all those who volunteered their time and energies in organising the racing and the excellent lunch, tea and supper.
