Mettler-Torledo
The Danish Crew of Mettler-Torledo are the winners of the 2002 Skiff Pro Tour. 15 of the top teams in Europe competed at the final Grand Prix event in Lagos, Portugal. The tour has seen some great skiff racing in Sicily, Travemunde and Lake Garda with some impressive action for both the spectators and cameras. Tom Rüegge and the crew of Team Model, winners of last years Pro Tour fought hard to defend their title taking the decision for this year’s winner to the final event. However, it was the skill and consistency of Michael Hestbek, Rasmus Terp Hansen and Adam Malling that proved unbeatable. Team Wempe, also from Denmark, gave the leading teams a hard time in the breezy conditions where there experience showed, taking 3rd overall.

British teams, Total Recall and CCA, achieved 7th and 8th respectively. This is the first full season for these teams and along with a strengthening 18ft Skiff Class in the UK we should expect some close competition from British Teams for the top places next year.

You can catch the action from the last two events in Eurosport’s Sailing World on the 2/3/4th and 16/17/18th of October.

The Algarve and the Partners of the Clube de Vela de Lagos made this final Grand Prix an outstanding event for sailors and spectators. For more information on the Skiff Pro Tour and Lagos please visit www.skiffprotour.com and www.cvlagos.org.
