Light airs for the British 470 team in Athens
Another day of light airs at the Saronic Gulf Regatta in Athens, Greece. The race committee made the intelligent decision last night that no racing would get underway until 3.00 p.m. in order to allow for some breeze to materialize. One race was sailed by all classes, in 5 knots of breeze and temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius.
A good day for the Brits in the Women's 470 class, with Josie Gibson and Saskia Clark recording their first win of the regatta. “They got a good start and went the right way on the first beat, they were 8th or 9th round the first mark and just improved on their position around the remainder of the course” commented Olympic Manager, Stephan Park.
In the men’s 470 class, Andreas Kosmatopoulos and crew Kostas Trigonis, won the only race of the day, with one discard they are able to discount their 18th result from yesterday, to put them in first place on the men’s leader board, 9 points in front of their nearest rivals, Evgeniy Braslavets and Igor Matvienko from the Ukraine.
Team GBR sailors, Nick Rogers and Jo Glanfield, scored a 7th position today, being able to discard their worst result, which is a 15th they were in 9th position overall.
