With a new sponsor on board, the 2026 Henri-Lloyd Racing Series (Prometheus Sailing Racing Series) took place over several weekends throughout the year.
Racing takes place in the Solent on chartered Sun Odyssey 410 yachts providing one design racing over a maximum of six races each weekend. Event winners or runners up - if the winner has already qualified - are then eligible for the final event, which was held this year on November 1st.
Following on from two named storms the previous week, high pressure brought a chilly northerly breeze, never more than 9 knots, and a murky grey day for the competitors on the Sunday morning, following their Halloween evening in Cowes.
Race 1 was set as a 2 lap windward /leeward course with an east going tide making a lee bow starboard tack the way to go. Hawksbill Rum (George Jacques/HSBC) attempted a port flier at the pin end but was shut out by two boats and never managed to get back on terms with the leaders. At the first leeward mark Henri-Lloyd (David Miller/Deloitte) rounded in the lead closely followed by Marlow Ropes (Geoff Johns/Shustoke SC). The lead extended on the 2nd beat with Henri-Lloyd having a comfortable winning margin at the finish followed by Marlow Ropes.
Race 2 and a change of course to the good old triangle/sausage. The breeze was fairly steady at 7-8 knots, still northerly with an occasion shift to the north east. Once again the starboard tack lee bow paid, and at the end of the triangle it was Henri-Lloyd in the lead again, with Marlow Rope following in touch. Problems with the spinnaker pole on rounding the leeward mark resulted in Marlow Ropes loosing touch with the leader and at the end of the sausage leg it was Henri-Lloyd again winning from Marlow Ropes.
Race 3 started after a brief delay under AP due to the breeze having gone very soft on the change of tide direction. Racing started in a reasonable 6-7 knots, still from the North, but with the tide now westerly. Unfortunately, the breeze then softened again and the race was shortened at the first leeward mark. Once again Henri-Lloyd was the winner this time from Hawksbill Rum.
So after 3 races and 3 wins, David Miller retains his title having now won it for a third year in a row.
