After five weekend racing events starting back in March, the 2025 YachtsandYachting.com Racing Series, organised by Prometheus Sailing, concluded with the finals on 26th October.
Four winning teams from the previous events competed in Prometheus 410s on a chilly and blustery day in the Eastern Solent. Over the 3 races held, the team on Southampton Sailing Week (David Miller/Deloitte) emerged clear winners, winning all the races comfortably.
However in Race 1 over a shortened windward/leeward course, their initial lead was seriously eroded due a late spinnaker drop. Hyde Sails (George Jacques/HSBC) who had also had spinnaker problems earlier on the downwind leg, charged toward the finish, but couldn't quite make up enough ground to take the gun.
Races 2 & 3 were set round the cans and with the breeze increasing, the sail plan was called for extra reefs and no spinnakers for Race 3. Southampton Sailing Week won both comfortably with Sunsail Zephyr (John Stoney) in 2nd place in Race 2 and British Virgin Island's (Geoff Johns/Shustoke SC) second in Race 3. Hyde Sails had technical issues after Race 2 and retired from Race 3.
With no discards in play, it was a close call for 2nd place overall, going to Sunsail Zephyr by 1 point from BVI's.
Congratulation to the team on Southampton Sailing Week for a dominate qualifying weekend and final, retaining the title they won last year.
