Wheel of Tune: The ultimate one-string raking product

Wheel of Tune: The ultimate one-string raking product © Allen

The Wheel of Tune is a self-locking (cleating) raking system, designed by John Turner and developed for the market by Allen to make raking the rig "Shrouds & Forestay" simple.

It negates the need to un-cleat and re-cleat – this simplifies changing gears as you move through the wind range – ensuring simple and accurate movement. The system has won many championships.

The WOT features:

  • Ceramic bearings
  • Stainless steel axle
  • A 3d printed body and internal mechanisms in MJF PA12

The system is suitable for the following classes, but is not limited to these:
  • Merlin Rocket
  • 505
  • Ospreys
  • Fireball
  • Scorpions
  • Flying Dutchman
  • Smaller keelboats
Any boat where the rig needs to move!

If you have a complicated, cumbersome method of adjusting your rig, this is a game changer.

Installation

Each boat has its own set-up and requirements, so each installation can vary depending on the sailors’ requirements and the boat's systems; this means there is no hard and fast way of installation. It can be installed on the side of the centreboard box or on the floor. It can be retrofitted, or in some cases the boat tooling has been built around the location and installation/consideration of the WOT. We have been working with the following boat builders to offer installation options:

  • Pinnell & Bax
  • JJ Boats
  • Winder Boats
  • Synergy Marine

Please contact one of the above builders or contact us directly for more information.

Quote from Dave Winder of Winder Boats, one of the industry-leading boat builders in the Merlin Rocket and WOT user for one season:

“A step forward as far as it allows you to use the rig more, as it’s so easy to move the rig forward and back whilst sailing – this was not an option before we installed the WOT – you can even rake the rig whilst on a reach. I grab the wheel rather than the Cunningham on a reach now”
