26 September - 2 October 2026
Brazil's Francisco Dal Ri will take a two-point advantage over compatriot Erik Scheidt into the final day of the 2026 ILCA 6 Men's World Championship after another full day of racing in Vilamoura.
With two more races completed on Thursday, the championship has now delivered 10 races across five consecutive days - two races every day since competition began. Dal Ri leads on 18 net points, with Scheidt second on 20, setting up a direct Brazilian contest for the world title on Friday.
Day five underlined the range of conditions the fleet has faced in Vilamoura. Racing began in light westerly winds, but the first attempt was abandoned after the breeze shifted from approximately 260-270 degrees to 240 degrees. The race committee reset the course before racing restarted in around 8 knots.
The conditions then changed considerably for the second race. The wind returned to approximately 260 degrees and strengthened to 15-16 knots, giving the fleet two very different tests within the same day.
Behind the Brazilian pair, Croatia's Toma Smircic moved back into third overall with 71 net points. Portugal's Kuzey Karis climbed to fourth on 78 points, three ahead of Croatia's Bepo Duplancic in fifth.
Italy's Lorenzo Ghirotti is sixth with 85 points, followed by Spain's Alberto Medel Castrillón on 87. Charalampos Velianitis of Hong Kong is eighth with 102 points, while Ireland's Conor Cronin and Greece's Vassilis Koukoudis complete the top 10, both on 114.
After five days of uninterrupted racing, attention now turns to Friday's final races. Dal Ri and Scheidt have exchanged the championship lead throughout the week, and just two points separate them before the 2026 ILCA 6 Men's world title is decided in Vilamoura.
