At the Hill Head Sailing Club Rooster ITCA Southern Topper Traveller 2026 on 13 September 2026, a total of thirty-five toppers (thirteen 4.2s and twenty-two 5.3s) took to the sea for an awesome day of racing, with some great competition across the board. The wind was a steady seventeen to twenty knots; with lots of waves to surf downwind.

Race 1 was a challenging start to the day, with a number of general recalls, as the fleet were pushing the line hard. The strong westerly tide meant we had a difficult time judging the lay line for the windward mark. As the day progressed, the wind stayed steady and the fleet sailed well. It was very close in the final results, with the top four competitors achieving tied results with a discard. So, the committee had to use countback in order to obtain the final standings.

Thanks very much to the fabulous race committee, and to race officer Harris Goodman for squeezing in 4 quality races, and for all your work behind the scenes to make this happen. Thanks to the HHSC volunteers, safety crew and catering team, we could not have done it without you. Finally, a big thank you to all the competitors who took part, it was a superb event. I hope you enjoyed it!

Please join us for the upcoming events. We'll be sailing with both the South West and London & South East fleets for Super South 2026 at Poole Yacht Club on 17-18 October, a full weekend of racing. The following weekend brings more great opportunities: ITCA Open Training on Saturday 24th October, followed by Southern Traveller 3 on Sunday 25th October both at Warsash Sailing Club. Both events count towards the season Southern Traveller series.
