J/105 Canadian & NA Championships win Chisholm Trophy for Excellence in Race Management Award

Sail Canada announced today that the J/105 Canadian and North American Championships, hosted by the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, received the Sail Canada Chisholm Trophy for Excellence in Race Management Award for 2025.
The Chisholm Trophy for Excellence in Race Management Award recognizes the club or association responsible for the regatta with the best-managed races during the timeframe of the award year. The winner is selected on the basis of the quality of race management. In order to be eligible for the award, clubs or associations must be members in good standing with Sail Canada.
Nominations were evaluated based on a time period ranging from January 1 to December 31, 2025.
"The race management team led by David Sprague did an excellent job of getting all the scheduled races in despite a wide range of conditions," said Regatta Chairperson, Todd Irving. "The quality of racing was top notch and between that, the shore program made the regatta one of the best ever for all participants from Canada and across the United States."
The J/105 Canadian and North American Championships were held September 17-20, 2025 at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club in Toronto and welcomed approximately 110 competitors on 18 boats from all over North America.
Multiple North American champions were on the starting line as well as several Olympic medalists and other noteworthy competitors during these six days of sailing held over an eight-day event. A total of 20 races were scheduled and 19 of them were completed with conditions ranging for three to 30 knots of breeze. Racing was tight and podium finishes were separated by the smallest of margins. The Race Management team was second to none and the Jury included some of the best International Judges in North America.
Onshore entertainment was also spectacular, thanks to the sponsorship support which was massive with contributions of more than $22,000 in cash and a value of over $15,000 in kind. The event was jam-packed with value for competitors and volunteers alike. From the morning weather briefings, sponsored coffee and muffins to the themed Après Sail festivities with daily prizes like race winner pucks, there was non-stop action for the competitors and their entourages.
