The 12th to 19th September will see the inaugural New York Yacht Club International Women's Championship take place on the waters off Newport, Rhode Island hosted by the prestigious New York Yacht Club (NYYC).
Britain's Hannah Diamond will skipper the Swans team from the Royal Thames Yacht Club and they will be the only team representing Great Britain. Hannah's experience across the America's Cup, Volvo Ocean Races and the Olympic world will put her in good stead to lead the 10-strong crew with sailors from all disciplines and all of whom will be kitted out in Musto's LPX and EVO range to compete in this highly competitive event.
"We have worked with Hannah for a number of years in her sailing endeavours across offshore and inshore disciplines and for this event we have kitted out the Swans team in a selection of LPX and EVO garments to best support the nature of this high-level of racing that requires the sailors to perform at the top of their game whatever the weather," said Nick Houchin, Marketing Director, Musto.
Twenty teams from 14 different countries will compete in the Club's fleet of one-design IC37 boats - a powerful, sporty boat that rewards cohesive crew work and athleticism. Each boat will be raced by nine crew members over five days of racing.
"The event in Newport is going to be really special because it's the inaugural women's international event," said Hannah Diamond. "It's going to be held in one design IC37 boats so it's really about how the sailors perform and it's an amazing opportunity to race at a really high level in one design boats. We've got an incredible crew and they come from all different types of sailing backgrounds. They race every weekend and we've pulled a really great crew together to give it our best shot."
The Swans will be aiming for a top five result at this inaugural event and having the right kit to help them achieve this result will be central to their performance: "The boats we are going to be racing are super dynamic so we need to feel like we are not even wearing waterproof clothing! But we know we are going to be in the elements so we need to feel protected as well," said Diamond.
To this end, the Swans will be wearing Musto's new LPX range, which was launched this summer. The new LPX GORE-TEX jacket provides the ultimate protection and comfort with fully taped seams, detachable hood, water-resistant centre front zipper with a medium-height collar featuring brushed tricot lining, water resistant secure storage pockets, and adjustable shock cord hems and cuffs to give a customisable fit.
"I've been really fortunate to work with Musto for a really long time now and I'm a huge fan of all of their kit, and it's tied in really nicely that the Royal Thames and Musto have also got a connection," said Diamond. "We've been really lucky to have Musto's support and we're really excited to wear their kit at the event.
"The LPX jacket is really lightweight and will keep us totally dry when racing, we've got the EVO sunblock t-shirts as well which is really great to have something that is light, breathable and protects you from the sun is just perfect. LPX is perfect for the racing we are doing because it doesn't really feel like you're even wearing a waterproof jacket!"
Musto's EVO garments are engineered for warm, sunny conditions, and combine lightweight comfort with lasting performance. Its fabric dries quickly and wicks away moisture to keep sailors feeling fresh, while the UPF 50-rated protection shields against harmful UV rays.
Although the Swans do not yet know what weather conditions they will face at the event, they know the competition will be fierce!
