Lymington Yacht Haven is pleased to announce the launch of a new live webcam installed on the Royal Lymington Yacht Club Starting Platform at the end of the Lymington River, offering live views of the Western Solent for boaters.

In partnership with the Yacht Club, Lymington Yacht Haven's new webcam provides berth holders and visiting sailors with a clear, real-time view of the western Solent, streaming live via the Lymington Yacht Haven website. The camera offers a 180-degree panorama looking towards Hurst Castle and the western Solent, giving sailors a comprehensive view of the sea state, weather conditions, visibility and traffic before heading out onto the water.

For nearly a century, the Starting Platform has been used for racing in the western Solent as well as being a recognisable landmark synonymous with signifying the entrance to Lymington River.

Sitting 2km from the Yacht Haven office, the installation was a complex challenge for the marina team, ensuring the camera system could be entirely self-sustaining, with its own power and communication system capable of delivering a high-quality live stream in a demanding marine environment.

Rupert Wagstaff, Director of Lymington Yacht Haven, said:

"We're really pleased this project is now complete and live for boaters to use. It's an idea that has been discussed for some time, but until recently we didn't have the technology to make it feasible."

We pride ourselves on providing the best service we can for our customers. As many of our Haven Team are keen sailors, this gave us a good grounding in understanding the information sailors want before they head out onto the water."

"With Lymington an enormously popular destination for boaters, and the town being home to year-round racing, we hope berth holders and visitors will be able to make use of this valuable new asset to assess sea state and weather conditions from the comfort of their marina berth."

The new webcam is now live and available to view via the Lymington Yacht Haven website.
