Noble Marine RS200 National Championship 2026 at Royal Torbay Yacht Club - Overall

by Lorna Glen & Debbie Jarvis 21 Aug 06:52 BST 15-20 August 2026

Black rain clouds and bonkers wind - what a finale for the end of the 2026 Noble Marine RS200 UK National Championship.

After a slight delay for the last boats to launch the black clouds built and the fleet braced themselves for a roller-coaster ride. The first race saw pathfinders Chris and Nicky Webber play the middle-right of the first beat to come out ahead at the windward mark, Ben and Isobel in 2nd with Rob and Rebecca 3rd. The downwind then brought some options, the straight set being the significant play, but different modes coming into effect with the local legends Morgan and Emma soaking low and getting up to 2nd by the leeward mark behind Ben and Isobel. Will and Erin climbed to 3rd by the gate.

The next upwind was a mission of how to get to the big black cloud first. Owen and Lorna struck gold on the right overtaking 13 boats, as a 30 knot squall and torrential rain reshuffled the fleet. Ben and Isobel now 2nd then Joe and Andy in 3rd. The places held to the finish with Ian and Emma in 4th securing them the overall championship win.

In the last race the top 3 all started earlier than ideal to protect their positions, but with the pathfinder lifted, the right was favoured. It was Joe and Andy coming out on top at marks 1 followed by Joseph and Amelie then Ralf & Tom in 3rd. The next leg brought another squall, 28 knots saw Joe & Angus reach the fastest speed of the week - 19.1 knots! A gybe set paid off for Rob and Rebecca until a wind swing from the trailing edge of the cloud brought Jamie and Ellen back into the race when the overtook 15 boats to take the lead at the gate. Rob and Rebecca came from the left in 2nd with Joe and Andy now in 3rd. The second beat was a long battle on starboard against the short sharp chop, before the port lay came into play again with Jamie and Ellen rounding first which they held to the finish. Rob and Rebecca were next round but Matt and Bethan sailed low and fast down the final run to cross the line 2nd with Owen and Lorna 3rd.

Royal Torbay Yacht Club went above and beyond to run a fantastic championship. After a week of incredibly tight racing in a wide range of conditions the trophy winners deserved their place in the spotlight. The RS200 Chair Bethan Matthew thanked the competitors, the club, her committee & the sponsors; Noble Marine, RS Sailing Store, Allen Brothers, Robline, Rooster, FM Sailing, Oil King Photography and Trac Trac.

Next year the championship will be up at ELYC in North Berwick.
