Abersoch Mirror Week 2026 is gearing up to be the largest gathering of red sails the bay has seen since the era when shoulder pads were big, perms were bigger, and half of today's parents were small sailors being launched into the surf in their Bell-built gaff-rigged rockets.
Those same sailors have now returned — older, wiser, and armed with children who have been told "Yes, we were VERY good back then."
Whether this is true remains unverified.
Racing Schedule (Also Known as: "Two races, then collapse on the beach")
Two races each morning, Monday to Friday, leaving plenty of time for:
- Sandcastle engineering
- Ice cream diplomacy
- Pretending you're not secretly relieved racing is finished
There's even talk of a Mums & Dads single-handed race, which promises to be the most entertaining spectacle since someone tried to gybe a Mirror without letting the mainsheet go.
Irish Mirror Armada Incoming
This year we welcome sailors from both the North and South of Ireland, who are rapidly growing their Mirror fleets and have bravely crossed the water to join the fun.
They are extremely welcome — especially because they bring skill, enthusiasm, and the ability to pronounce Abersoch correctly.
The Management Team
Race Officer Phil Snewin and Events Director Harvey Worden continue their heroic streak of keeping 70+ Mirrors vaguely pointed at the start line.
With Ed and Claire on the social team, we can expect:
- Organised fun
- Unorganised fun
- Tug of war
And possibly a Conga line!
A perfect regatta recipe.
The Start Line Debate
With 70+ entries already, the question arose: "How long does the start line need to be?"
After deep tactical discussion (and one pint), it was agreed that a natural pecking order would form:
- International champions on the front row
- National champions on row two
- Open-meeting heroes on row three
- Everyone else behind them, wondering how the front row got there so early
A truly magnificent fleet for 2026.
