Bosham Sailing Club Junior Regatta 2026

Another impressive turnout of 88 boats took to the water for the 2026 Bosham Sailing Club Junior Regatta with prizes sponsored by Rooster.

This year there was not the challenge of navigating the onshore activities around a wedding and marquee on the meadow. Having said that, the logistics of launching and managing trollies for so many boats around a low tide launch and a high tide return was still considerable. As always the volunteer shore team marshalled by RC Cadets did an admirable job. As did the three race teams and eleven patrol teams keeping everything safe and dealing with the odd sinking.

As is customary for Junior Regatta, there was wall-to-wall sunshine as the late May heatwave got into its stride and a decent WSW breeze... not too breezy for the less experienced sailors to struggle but enough for the best to show what they can do.

Racing was organised from three committee boats with two courses out in Chichester Channel and the Optimists up in the Bosham gem that is the Cutmill high tide pool. Thanks to Itchenor Sailing Club for allowing the use of their committee boat 'Transit' for the Mirror/Topper courses.

Notable this year was the 17 Mirror entries, making them the second biggest class after the Optimists and reflecting a glorious resurgence in Mirror racing at BSC. There is much young life in this venerable old class.

After three races the fleets returned ashore on the flood tide to some chill Ibiza vibes from impressive young DJ James Lloyd and delicious food for hungry sailors (and adults) from Helen's Real Food. And after the prize-giving the beats pumped up and it was party time in the Balearic sunset... until tired young sailors had to retire gracefully with much more sailing to come over the holiday weekend.

420 - Ed Upton-Brown & Zach Aziz (8 entries)
