As the 2026 European Championships play out the WASZP Class and Foiling Base Cádiz agree landmark three-year partnership to create a year-round European home for WASZP in Spain.

The Memorandum of Understanding establishes a long-term collaboration between the WASZP International Class Association and Foiling Base Cádiz to develop a year-round calendar of racing, coaching, training and athlete development in one of Europe's premier foiling destinations.

Built around a shared ambition to grow participation and strengthen athlete pathways, the collaboration reinforces Cádiz's position as one of the world's premier foiling destinations while creating a year-round home for the international WASZP community.

At the heart of the initiative is the WASZP European Winter Hub, giving sailors from across Europe the opportunity to escape the northern winter from October to February to continue training, coaching and racing in the reliable sunshine, mild climate and consistent foiling conditions that Cádiz enjoys throughout the year.

Supported by the world-class facilities of Foiling Base Cádiz, sailors have access to a unique environment where they can develop their skills, compete at the highest level and enjoy one of Europe's iconic sailing destinations.

Launching the partnership will be the second edition of the WASZP All-Stars Invitational, the Class's flagship invitation-only sprint event to frame a spectacular opening to Cádiz Foiling Days.

Bringing together the world's leading male and female WASZP sailors on 9-11 October, All-Stars will again feature an incredible €10,000 prize pool shared equally between the men's and women's winners - the largest equal prize purse in international dinghy sailing.

The annual calendar will also include the WASZP EuroCup Final from 17-20 December 2026, providing the perfect opportunity for sailors to celebrate the European season before leaving their boats in Cádiz for the Winter Hub and training programme.

A range of dedicated coaching clinics, training camps and informal regattas offer a complete pathway from developing sailors through to the world's best.

More than simply a calendar of events, the partnership is designed to make Cádiz the natural meeting place for the international WASZP community, a place where sailors return year after year to train, race, learn, reconnect and share their passion for foiling.

Beyond the water, the partnership will introduce visiting sailors and their families to everything that makes Cádiz and Andalucía such a special destination. From its rich maritime history and vibrant culture to its renowned cuisine, beaches and relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle, the partnership encourages visitors to extend their stay and experience one of Europe's great coastal regions.

By combining world-class sailing with an unforgettable destination experience, the collaboration is expected to deliver lasting tourism and economic benefits while further strengthening Cádiz's international profile.

WICA President Jervis Tilly welcomed the announcement.

"This partnership marks an exciting new chapter for the WASZP Class. Together with Foiling Base Cádiz, we're creating far more than a venue for great events. We're creating a year-round home for the international WASZP community. Cádiz offers an exceptional combination of world-class facilities, reliable foiling conditions and an incredible lifestyle that sailors, families and supporters will want to experience again and again. The European Winter Hub, together with flagship events like the All-Stars Invitational and the EuroCup Final, will become a cornerstone of our international calendar while showcasing one of the world's truly great foiling destinations."

Carlos Lucero, Sports councillor of the Cadiz City Council, was excited by the prospect; "Planning the 2026/2027 winter season in collaboration with WASZP marks the consolidation of the class in our country. Putting the city of Cádiz at the heart of the international foiling scene through the events to be hosted by Foiling Base Cádiz is a wonderful challenge that we are very keen to make a reality."

"We are fortunate to have a bay that offers optimal conditions for foiling 365 days a year, as well as excellent facilities and resources for hosting international events for athletes from all over the world. From the Municipal Sports Institute of the City Council of Cádiz, we are looking forward to working closely with the WASZP Class on events such as the All-Stars Invitational, the EuroCup Final and the establishment of a WASZP European Winter Hub."

The agreement reflects a shared commitment to delivering world-class events, growing participation, developing the next generation of foiling sailors and continuing to reinforce Cádiz's position as one of the world's leading destinations for foiling. It also underscores the WASZP motto of Foiling for Everyone.

Further announcements, including event dates, athlete invitations and entry information for the second edition of the WASZP All-Stars Invitational, will follow shortly.
