30 competitors braved challenging conditions at Whitefriars Sailing Club for the fourth Hansa TT event of the 2026 season. The strong and shifty winds led to testing conditions on the water.
The Liberty class consisted of eight boats, including Mary Duffy travelling all the way from Bray Sailing Club in Ireland. The first race was won by local sailor Toby Owen from Paul Philips and David Durston.
However, Frensham's Mike Everitt found his form winning races 2 and 3, Toby held on for second in both setting up an important final race. Toby won the final race leaving him and Mike equal on 4 points with Toby taking the win on countback. Paul Philips and David Durston also ended tied on 10 points with Paul's second place giving him third overall.
Meanwhile in the 303 singles there was close sailing throughout the fleet with five different sailors taking podiums through the day. Phil Monk took the first win of the day, closely followed by Frensham's Margaret Foreman.
In the remaining races fickle Whitefriars winds favoured local knowledge with Sophie Brisley, Phil Monk, Jayleigh Tilley and Roch Rochester fighting it out from the top spots. Again the places were decided on countback with Sophie and Phil ending tied on 5 points, and Sophie took the win by virtue of her first-place finish in the final race; unfortunately Jayleigh had to retire from the final race but her earlier results were enough to cement third overall.
In the 303 two-person fleet it was Lynne and Stuart Swan of Chesil Sailability that triumphed with four first place finishes, behind them Kristian and Helen from Frensham took second in both the morning races, but unfortunately equipment failure in race 3 meant they were unable to continue with that good form.
This gave opportunities to local pairings Marcus and Daniel, and Fleur and Antony. Marcus and Fleur were both competing in their first TT events, they finished second and third respectively but were pushed all the way by Philip and Deedee who finished just 1 point behind in fourth.
The conditions proved too challenging for the 2.3 class, but the two competitors battled through two races, with Lindsay Burns taking first place over Andrew Lebec.
Finally a thanks to all the volunteers in the race team, safety crew and shore team for their assistance in running the largest ever Whitefriars Hansa TT with special thanks to Simon Portman and his kitchen helpers for keeping all well fed throughout the day.
