Enterprise Double Chine Series Open at Tamworth Sailing Club

by Paul Young 30 May 05:50 BST 16 May 2026

The first Midland Area Enterprise Double Chine series event of 2026 took place at Tamworth Sailing Club on Saturday 16th May. The meeting was run jointly with one for the GP14 class.

A dry day with a light and variable westerly wind gave a challenging day for the five-boat fleet which included visitors from Shustoke and Midland sailing clubs.

In the first race Nigel Allso crewed by Kate Brazier (Tamworth) went left along with Paul Burgoine crewed by Livia Jenkins (Shustoke) whilst Paul Young crewed by Khiaan Paul Schild (Midland SC) gambled on a slightly more direct route through the islands. Paul and Livia reached the windward mark first closely followed by Nigel and Kate with Paul and Khiaan a little bit behind.

At the end of the first lap Paul and Khiaan overtook Nigel and Kate on the long run to gain second, whilst Paul and Livia opened up a lead. A lap later Nigel and Kate passed Paul and Khiaan on a beat to regain second place. On the final beat to the finish line Nigel and Kate caught up, however Paul and Livia remained calm covering Nigel and Kate to take the win.

The second race started on a new course after an excellent lunch of Pulled Pork Cobs or Jacket potatoes.

This time Paul and Khiaan got the best start on port tack and led for most of the first beat. Near the first windward mark Nigel and Kate and Allan Roper crewed by Hugh Nethercot (Tamworth) got some better wind on the left to round first and second with Paul and Khiaan third.

On the next short downwind leg to mark two Paul and Khiaan went deep to gain more wind and retake the lead, however this was short-lived as near the end of the following reach Nigel and Kate overtook again to regain the lead which they held to the finish, with Paul and Livia chasing them hard up the last beat to finish a close second.

With all to play for the third race started after a short break.

With Nigel and Kate and Paul and Livia keeping a close eye on each other starting on Starboard, Paul and Khiaan started closely behind them on port and took the lead almost to the first windward mark, where again he lost it to Paul and Livia and then later to Nigel and Kate.

Paul and Livia then held the lead for the rest of the lap. Later on, lap two Nigel and Kate overtook Paul and Livia whilst Paul and Khiaan caught up and all three boats were very close together for a while. Later on, a run Paul and Livia managed to pull away to take the win and the meeting.

The next event in the Double chine is joint with the Northern area at Ogston SC in Derbyshire on 14th June with a training day/ workshop the day before, followed by Midland SC in Birmingham on Sunday 28th June.

We look forward to seeing you at these events.
