Spring Series 7 was back to perfect A rig conditions in a 6-12 knot SW breeze and sunshine. With some of the 17 entries still on duty the Datchet IOM worlds 12 members attended. Ralph Wilkinson was non-racing RO, getting 16 races in with the odd course change as the wind swung around. Peter Jackson was course setter/boatman and also (largely!) racing.

Series leader Adrian Tomlinson was back, as was Dave Adams after his recent Guildford event win. Adrian hit the ground running with two wins, but Dave hit back with two of his own. Mike Brand was 2nd from Peter Jackson in race 1 then 3rd twice before David (DT), the younger Tomlinson brother, hit the bottom step in race 4. Big brother Adrian then plugged in 2 more wins as Dave faltered with a 3,6,5 before his next win.

But it wasn't just a two horse race at the front. Paul Woodward peaked with a 2nd in race 5, then a 3rd in race 7 before retreating gracefully to the rear. After a receiver failure and 2 races out Peter Jackson returned with a 2nd in race 6. But star performance of the day was by Peter Glover, winning race 7 after a few months away racing RC power boats.

At the front Adrian and Dave exchanged wins, with Mike taking a break from the front end until a 2nd in race 11 ahead of DT's 3rd of five 3rd places in all. 2nd in star performances was the inexperienced Ed Coxon with a 3rd place in race 6. Andrew Nicholls hit the podium in 3rd in race 10. Simon Thornton was off the pace but got a 2nd in race 10 before sinking back into the fleet again.

By race 11 Adrian had seven wins and four 2nds. Dave then came back with 2 wins in a row to make it 5, but the dye was cast with Adrian 1st then Dave A, with the fight now for 3rd. Peter came back with another 2nd in race 12 to Dave, ahead of Adrian. Then Peter Jackson also won race 14, but had missed 6 races so was out of the running. Peter Glover followed his old skipper in for 2nd in race 14, with Mike 3rd, to hold 3rd for the event, but DT followed all his 3rds with a 2nd in the last race, which would have earned 3rd but Mike got his first win in that race to hold off DT for 3rd on countback.

Peter Glover was clear in 5th behind Mike and DT, then another equal points between Paul Woodward and Andrew Nichols for 6th was settled by Pauls earlier 2nd place. Simon trailed 3 points behind. Adrian won the penultimate race so wins were split; Adrian 8, Dave 5, then Mike, Peter G and Peter J with one each. Adrian extended his Spring Series lead with 4 wins to Dave Adams 1,2,2,2. Peter Jackson has 2 event wins and a 3rd but both Mike (2,3,3,3) and Dave T. (2,2,3,4) are now ahead with 1 point between the three for 3rd.
