RS200 EaSea Tour Event 2 at the Waldringfield Easter Egg

by Will Taylor 15 May 11:20 BST 3-4 April 2026

Good Friday, a good day for sailing as some would say. 22 boats turned up for the fun and games of sailing on the River Deben at Waldringfield Sailing Club for the annual open event opener of the Easter Egg.

With the fleets split across the river we had a sailing area to maximise the windward leeward course. The first day saw the tide on the flood being a prominent factor especially off the start line. The Race officer did well to maximise the course within the limits of the Debens constraints with the Start line out of the tide and the windward in the tide to test lay lines.

Race 1 saw Stephen Videlo and Connor Line launch into the lead with Rob Henderson and Rebecca Videlo following close behind with Will and Matt Taylor chasing in third. Even with Rob and Rebecca's winter programme they did test the depths of the River Deben with the burgee. Chris Mayhew and Ines Green pulled through to take third.

Race 2 saw a similar pattern with hard left paying up the beats with Alan Krailing and Isobel Stewart taking the win from Ben Whaley and Rhona Enkel with M J Gifford and Tim Waller taking third.

Race 3 saw a heavily biased line with the majority of the fleet tacking onto port and some boats taking an innovative approach to starting. Race winners were Ben and Rhona, Rob and Rebecca came through to second, with Will and Matt in third. Overnight this left the fleet close together with no one securing 3 solid results showing the strength within the fleet. A good afternoon was spent celebrating Rebecca's birthday and spending time with friends.

Day 2 saw a similar race course but with a little less breeze but with the breeze further left, the course became more open with opportunities upwind and large downwind gains for those that were able to link gusts. As is common with the 200 fleet on a short line a general recall followed which resulted in the fleet being moved to the back of the starting sequence. Once going Rob and Rebecca showed a clean pair of heels to leave the fleet in their wake, Will and Matt took second, Stephen and Connor taking third.

With the final race the points were too close to call and a grand finale inbound, Ben and Rhona finished the event with a win followed by Tom Alheid and Bee Nee with Rob and Rebecca finishing a consistent event in third.

This event showed the quality in the fleet with 8 boats finishing in the top 3 in races with last year's winners finishing 8th there is no place to hide with quality throughout and place changes a plenty in the shifty, gusty conditions of the Deben in a South Westerly breeze.

Event winners were Ben Whaley and Rhona with Rob and Rebecca in Second followed by Will and Matt in third. A great event for all who attended with close racing throughout the fleet with every place hard thought.

Big thanks as always to our generous tour sponsors, Sailing Chandlery!
