With February's chill still in the air, sailors are already looking ahead to the promise of warmer days and fresh breezes on Ullswater.
Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes one of the Lake District's most eagerly anticipated weekends of the sailing season: the Magic Marine Daffodil Regatta, returning to Ullswater Yacht Club (UYC) on 25-26 April. Two full days of racing promise tight competition, variable courses, and the kind of lake scenery that makes every tack and gybe unforgettable.
Racing Highlights
This year's regatta brings together a fantastic mix of classes, combining championship contests with open fleets for sailors of all abilities:
- D-Zero - Northern Championships T2
- RS200 - Daffodil Regatta
- Snipes - Traveller Series
- OK - Traveller Series
- Musto Skiff - UK Circuit (S&N)
- 2000 - Latitude Series Event
Windward/Leeward and Conventional Courses across two days guarantee variety, with every start line offering the chance for a tactical masterclass or a thrilling duel. Ullswater's ever-changing conditions mean no two races are ever the same—a challenge that seasoned sailors relish.
Ashore Atmosphere
Away from the racing, the Daffodil Regatta has built a reputation for its lively social scene:
- Live music from Fiona - Music in the Lakes on Saturday evening
- Shap Fish & Chip Van serving Friday and Saturday nights
- Hearty breakfasts each morning to fuel up before the start
Whether unwinding after a close-fought race or soaking up the spring sunshine on the terrace, the regatta offers a weekend of sailing and socialising for competitors and families alike.
