Inviting the community to discover sailing
The Blackwater Sailing Club is delighted to announce its upcoming Open Day inviting members of the public to come along and discover the excitement of sailing, explore the club's facilities and meet its friendly community of members.
Taking place on 9 May, the Open Day will welcome visitors of all ages and experience levels. Whether a complete beginner curious about getting on the water or an experienced sailor looking to join a vibrant local club there will be something for everyone.
Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a range of activities throughout the day, including:
Free taster sailing sessions with the experienced instructors on the training lake; learn about the RYA sailing courses that the Club offers and membership options; explore the beautiful River Blackwater in ribs and cruisers; guided tours of the club and its facilities; opportunities to meet current members and hear about club life both on and off the water.
There will also be a chance to watch a club race, offering an exciting glimpse into the competitive side of sailing. Visitors will be able to view the action as sailors navigate the course and compete in a friendly but spirited environment. Experienced members will be on hand to explain the racing format, rules and tactics making it an engaging and informative experience even for those completely new to the sport.
"Our Open Day is a highlight of the year and a wonderful chance to introduce new people to sailing in a relaxed and welcoming environment," said Joe Bird, Rear Commodore of the Blackwater Sailing Club. "We're proud of our inclusive community and look forward to welcoming everyone and sharing our passion for sailing."
No prior sailing experience is necessary and all safety equipment will be provided. Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable warm clothing suitable for outdoor activities. Cake and other refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon.
The Open Day is on Saturday 9 May 2.00 - 6.00pm. It is free to attend (open to all ages) and no previous experience is required. Experienced members will be on hand to provide guidance and information. There is free parking.
