International Canoe open meeting at Poole Yacht Club

by Phil Robin 20 Apr 13:52 BST 18-19 April 2026

The Poole Yacht Club hosted the first International Canoe event of the season on 18/19 April and those who had emerged from hibernation enjoyed two days of champagne sailing conditions and very close racing, in the picturesque Poole Harbour.

Shifty winds and much place changing throughout the fleet characterised the racing on both days.

The three races on Saturday were held in a force 3-4 north-easterly, with Adam May winning the first two races and Clive Everest winning the third race, and each taking second place in the other races respectfully. James Hofman enjoyed the increasing wind as the day progressed and finished third in all the races.

A lighter force 2 northerly provided close racing on the Sunday, with Adam continuing his winning form in the first race with Phil Robin finishing second.

Race 5 was won by Phil with Mike Fenwick in his new boat coming second. The course was reset following a 120 degree wind shift for final race, and the close battles continued and saw Adam moving from fourth place to first on the final beat and keeping his lead to the finish with Clive finishing second.
