The first day of the Mallorca Sailing Centre Regatta saw three races completed for the 49er and 49erFX fleets, and two for the other classes. The event brings together more than 300 Olympic-class boats in the Bay of Palma until Sunday.

The Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta began in light breezes, but there was enough for the five classes to get their first races away. An Embat wind of around six to nine knots allowed for two races in the ILCA 6, ILCA 7 and Nacra 17 classes, and three in the 49er and 49erFX classes. More than 300 boats filled the Bay of Palma with sails at the start of the 2026 edition of this massive event, considered the prelude to the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels.

The ILCA 6 fleet, the largest in this edition, was divided into two groups comprising the 103 participating boats. After combining the day's two races, Ireland's Eve McMahon leads thanks to a sixth and a second place, followed six points behind by a tie between Poland's Agata Barwinska and Italy's Carolina Albano.

In the ILCA 7, Dimitri Peroni was the only sailor to remain in the top ten across both races, allowing him to return to shore with the best score among the 67 boats that made their debut today. The Italian leads with ten points, a full 13 points clear of Israel's Reem Pulci and Germany's Justin Barth.

The Nacra 17 fleet also has a standout team: the Argentinians Mateo Majdalani and Eugenia Bosco, who recorded a first, a second and a third to lead the Dutch Offerman/Houtman by four points. The Spanish pair Joan Cardona and Nicole Van der Velden lead the Spanish Cup from eighth place in the provisional overall standings.

With three races completed in each of the two groups into which the fleet of 49er teams is divided, the competition is extremely tight at the top of the table. The Polish pair Dominik Buksak and Mateusz Gwozdz (11+2+3) lead by the narrowest of margins over the Hungarians Kis-Szöllgyémi/De Jonghe (5+11+1) and are just two points ahead of the Danes Rask/Precht (2+1+15). Among the Spanish contingent, the best performers of the day were Conrad Konitzer and Antonio Torrado, who are eighth and lead the Spanish Cup in the class after recording scores of 11+2+12.

Also with three races completed in their two groups, the 49erFX returned having done their homework. With seven points, Hong Kong's Emily Grace Polson and Tiffany Mak lead the standings, tied with the Czech pair Burska/Tkadeová and just one point ahead of Paula Barceló and María Cantero. The reigning world champions in the category put in a strong performance on this first day, securing the only race win for Spain, along with a fourth and a third place. They lead the provisional standings of the Spanish Cup.

The competition will run until Sunday.

The Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta is organised by Club Nàutic Arenal and Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, in collaboration with the Real Federación Española de Vela, the Federación Balear de Vela and the Bahía Activa Foundation.
