JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff World Championship 2026 presented by The Winning Group - Lay day

by Frank Quealey 9 Mar 09:27 GMT 6-15 March 2026

Race 2 of the JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff World Championship, presented by The Winning Group, on Sydney Harbour yesterday (Sunday, March 8) was a wild day for the 27-boat fleet which battled incredible conditions ranging from a start in 20-plus knots of Southerly wind to finishing in blindingly heavy rain and no wind for the winner, Yandoo.

As usual, in southerly harbour winds, the spinnaker run from Clark Island to Obelisk Bay was fast, exciting and dramatic, ending with a difficult manoeuvre at the rounding mark.

Racing at the championship resumes tomorrow (Tuesday, March 10) with Races 3 and 4 which are predicted to have less dramatic conditions than Race 2. Whatever the conditions, the racing is certain to be close as the fleet battles to stay in contention for the title.

The Host Club, Australian 18 Footers League's spectator ferry will follow all races and ferry tickets may be purchased via this link Buy Ferry Tickets SailMedia will livestream all the action from the course, along with expert commentary.

Viewing of the coverage of Races 3 and 4 is available on youtube.com/video/8nk8PkikIIQ/livestreaming on 10th March.
