Five races and five winners on Opening Day at the M32 World Championship.

TUUCI Racing, fresh off a North American Championship win, stunned the fleet on the Opening Day and claimed pole position at the M32 World Championship.

Today, Biscayne Bay saw full sunshine and a pulsating breeze between six and 10 knots. The M32 fleet is quite the spectacle on the bay: We prompted a very enthusiastic water patrol police officer to come check out the racing—cigar in hand.

Race One

TUUCI led at mark one, but Surge reeled them in and snatched the win. ChinaOne.Ningbo broke down in the prestart and retired. Hard contact in the pre-start between Pursuit & Surge added two penalty points to Pursuit's score.

Race Two

Convexity led wire-to-wire to take the race win and pulled into first overall. Surge went from hero to zero, rounding the first mark in last place, but ultimately clawed back to 6th; good enough to be tied for 2nd overall.

Race Three

ChinaOne.Ningbo with Phil Robertson at the helm put the fleet on warning and won with a huge margin over second place Convexity.

Race Four

Until the final leg, it looked like a 1-2-3 Julien family podium—until Bill Ruh's Pursuit cracked into Bobby Julien's third-place spot. Charlie Julien's Rated X took the win.

A few incidents occurred in Race Four resulting in six penalty points added to Convexity's scorecard. Surge vs. Convexity. "We had dinner with these guys last night—so maybe it's a good thing it wasn't scheduled for tonight," joked McKillen. "Just kidding. Just a little tussle down at the leeward gate, but all good. Everyone's still friends!" Both teams laughed it off. The skewered MarkSetBot might be the only one not laughing.

Race Five

Ten seconds before the start, M32 North America's Dave Doucett said "TUUCI is going to win this race" as they lined up at the pin end. Lo and behold, that's exactly what happened. TUUCI won the final race of the day and lead the regatta overall. Congratulations to Cy Thompson, Lucas Calabrese, John Wallace, C.T. Olander, and Charlie McHugh.

After racing, teams enjoyed a Miami BBQ at the regatta headquarters immediately after sailing - complete with BACARDÍ cocktails and TUUCI hospitality.

14 races to go. See you tomorrow.
