After a windless second day, racing finally resumed on Lake Attersee. The first start, scheduled for 10:30 a.m., had to be postponed as the wind failed to appear in the morning. Around 3 p.m., a steady northerly breeze filled in, allowing the race committee to complete three exciting and fair races.
With summery temperatures of around 25 degreesC and winds between 6 and 9 knots, the conditions were ideal for moving the championship forward.
The top ten teams remain very close together, promising an exciting finish to the championship.
A strong turnout was seen in the mixed crews category, with 11 teams from across Europe and beyond competing in Attersee. Leading the fleet are Czech sailors Michaela Pavlisova and Marek Pavlis, who not only top the mixed ranking but also continue to impress in the overall standings with consistent top finishes. Close behind are their compatriots Zdenek Pavlis and Klara Pavlisova, who hold second place, followed by Jakub Sobotka and Veronika Hrabalová, also from the Czech Republic, rounding out a dominant showing for the Czech teams, only because Allan Gamble and Imke Jansen represent Australia so they stand 3rd in the Open Mixed event.
Crews from Belgium, Austria, France, Germany, Luxembourg, and even Australia add to the international flair of the championship, underlining the wide appeal and competitiveness of the Tornado class in the mixed division
In the overall ranking, Michaela Pavlisova and Marek Pavlis remain in the lead. They posted a third place and a race win today (discarding an eighth place) to comfortably defend their overall lead. In second place are Zdenek Pavlis and Klara Pavlisova, who continued their consistent series with a second and a fourth place. Dominik and Florian Kopp from Austria are now in third overall after taking victory in today's first race, moving them onto the podium
Two more races are scheduled for tomorrow. The skippers' meeting has been moved half an hour earlier to make the most of the morning breeze. With another light-wind forecast, there is still some uncertainty whether all scheduled races can be completed - the tension remains high both on and off the water.
