The third day of the Tornado European Championship confirmed the excellent form of the Greek fleet, the standout performer after nine races have been completed.
Konstantinos Trigonis and Konstantinos Kazantzis, sailing GRE 11, have consolidated their lead in the overall standings with 17 net points, thanks to a highly consistent series highlighted by two consecutive victories in the final two races of the day.
Behind them, Nikolaos Mavros and Polydoros Parianos on GRE 86 remain firmly in contention, sitting second on 27 net points. Tied on the same score and in third place is the Swiss crew of Marcel and Jörg Steiner, who produced a remarkable comeback with three consecutive second-place finishes in the final three races. Their performance keeps the fight for the podium and the European title wide open.
The wind, stronger than during the first two days, made the racecourse even more challenging and spectacular. The conditions led to less predictable tactical choices, with wind shifts, crossings and manoeuvres proving decisive in shaping the fleet's positions. There were several comebacks, changes in the rankings and closely fought races all the way to the finish, confirming the high technical level of the competitors.
Czech sailors Michaela Pavlisova and Marek Pavlis remain in fourth place, following another solid and consistent series. Jean-Marc Cuanillon and Michael Gloor, sailing SUI 232, are fifth overall, followed by Greek crew Michael Papadopoulos and Danis Pascalidis.
Among the Italian teams, Mirco Mazzini and Andrea Ciavatta are currently ninth overall and lead the Italian standings. With several races still to be sailed, Greece is beginning to pull away at the front, but the battle behind them remains completely open.
