With just a few days left before entries close for the Windsurfer European Championship (September 9–14, Punta Ala), preparations are in full swing.

Centro Velico Punta Ala and PuntAla Camp & Resort are ready to welcome more than 170 registered athletes, together with their families, and to turn the Gulf of Follonica into an international stage. September 2 marks the final deadline to join the entry list and compete for the European title in the Windsurfer Class, alongside great champions and legends of the sport.

Once again, the Windsurfer Class shows its unique spirit, capable of uniting different generations. About 75% of the fleet is made up of Grand Master and Legend sailors, as one might expect from a class with more than 50 years of history. Yet since the relaunch in 2018, with the introduction of the Windsurfer LT boards and recognition by World Sailing, a new generation has emerged: 9% of the Punta Ala fleet will be under 19, young athletes ready to challenge the veterans. This encouraging trend was further strengthened last June with the creation of the new ASD Windsurfer Class Italia, aimed at reviving the class with a renewed focus on youth and local fleets.

With an entry list that blends established champions and new talents, the European Championship in Punta Ala promises to deliver top-level competition. Spectators will be able to follow the races live thanks to the MetaSail tracking system, while for athletes the event represents a crucial step on the road to the Windsurfer World Championships in Athens (October 11–17), the perfect occasion to test strategies, rivals, and conditions before the world title.

Alongside the racing, the host club will place strong emphasis on the social dimension and community spirit, always at the heart of the Windsurfer philosophy. The class is not just a sport, but a lifestyle: the famous Windsurfer Spirit is made of 50% fair competition and 50% social time. In this spirit, the onshore program includes some of the week’s most anticipated highlights: the Crew Dinner Party at Bubula Restaurant on Friday, September 12 (menu still under wraps, but sure to impress), plus live music evenings and daily happy hours – the perfect way to unwind after racing. Each sailor will also receive a race pack with the official event T-shirt, a bottle of wine offered by Cantina La Pierotta, and exclusive gadgets.

Given the strong participation of companions, a wide range of activities has been planned for families and friends: yoga on the beach, sunset trekking to Cala Violina, e-bike tours, horseback excursions, wine tastings, and relaxation on the resort’s private beach, from which it will be possible to watch the colorful sails on the horizon.

The countdown has begun: Punta Ala is ready to welcome sailors and fans for a week of sport and conviviality, in the authentic spirit that has always distinguished the Windsurfer Class.
