ILCA Senior European Championship 2025 in Marstrand, Sweden - Day 3

by Agustín Argüelles, EurILCA 14 Aug 08:47 BST 9-16 August 2025

The third day of racing at the 2025 ILCA Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy marked the conclusion of the Qualifying Series, setting the stage for the Final Series to begin on Thursday. Competitors were once again treated to bright sunshine in Marstrand, though the wind proved more elusive than on previous days.

A light 6-8 knot breeze carried the fleets through the morning and early afternoon. The ILCA 7 sailors took full advantage, completing both of their scheduled races before the conditions faded. The ILCA 6 fleets managed to finish their fifth race, but their second start of the day — the sixth race of the championship — was abandoned when the wind dropped away completely around 14:00.

By 15:00, all fleets had returned to shore, bringing an early close to the day's competition. Ashore, the hosting club GKSS welcomed sailors, coaches, and officials to a relaxed barbecue by the water, offering a chance to enjoy the warm afternoon and recharge ahead of the decisive days to come.

With qualifying now complete, the fleets will be split for the Final Series, which will run over the next three days to decide the 2025 European champions.

I came away with a good start, had some good winds, and then I rounded up in Mark in third I guess, and then I finished the race around sixth, so I'm happy... It's always nice to to win the title (Under 23) but I don't really think about it too much. I try to do my best here in the Senior fleet and get some good practicing - Roos Wind NED.
