The Solent Dragon fleet made a powerful statement this summer as five boats, Bertie, Fit Chick, Jerboa, Dreki, and Bluebottle, travelled from Cowes to Torquay to compete in the 2025 Edinburgh Cup and South West Championship. Their commitment to supporting national events was matched by strong performances across the fleet in a highly competitive six-race series.

Facing off against international competition in varied conditions, these Cowes-based Dragons proved that the Solent remains a breeding ground for tactical skill, team depth, and one-design racing excellence. From close finishes to impressive comebacks, the Solent entries were consistently part of the front-running action, a reflection of their experience and tight-knit community spirit.

All eyes now turn to Cowes Week, where the Solent fleet will return to home waters in force. With 12 Dragons already entered in White Group, the largest Dragon entry in several years, this marks a significant moment for the class at the UK's most iconic regatta.

Chris Grosscurth, Solent Dragon Fleet Captain, said, "It was fantastic to see such strong representation from the Solent fleet at the Edinburgh Cup this year. Our teams sailed hard and showed exactly what Cowes-based Dragons are made of. It is great to see such a strong turnout in entries for the Dragon Fleet at Cowes Week this year. This proves the momentum we have gained this year in participation.

"We have tried something slightly different in adding key Cowes-based regattas to our already solid club racing. This included Cowes Spring Classics, Cowes Classic Week and the Royal Thames 250th Regatta (incorporating the Dragon South Coast Championships).

"Whilst always aiming to run our regattas as a one-design fleet, events are combined with other fleets, which immediately adds more atmosphere on the water, but especially shoreside.

"We now look forward to 2026, and we would expect to see a strong entry for Cowes Week 200 and our pinnacle event, the Edinburgh Cup, incorporating the UK Grand Prix, 18th - 21st August 2026."

Expect fast racing, tight mark roundings, and a true celebration of Dragon sailing heritage as the Solent fleet takes centre stage this summer.
