BIA welcomes the Queensland Government announcement of $15 million (over 3 years) being allocated towards the Keeping Our Waterways Safe program. BIA has consistently advocated for continued support for the War on Wrecks program and to also promote the importance of responsible boat ownership. That is why BIA is also working with governments across Australia in development of a national responsible boat owner campaign which is due for release later this year.

Coral Sea Marina has announced a new family-friendly and educational community event, the Better Boating Expo, which is set to take place on 11th July at the Coral Sea Marina Gardens. Designed to bring together boating enthusiasts, locals, and visitors alike, this vibrant and interactive expo is a celebration of marine safety, sustainability, and stewardship of the stunning Whitsundays region.

Australian Sailing is pleased to announce the appointment of respected sports administrator Malcolm Page OAM OLY as its new Chief Executive Officer. Page brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a celebrated career both on and off the water. As one of Australia's most successful Olympic sailors, Page secured gold medals at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Australian Sailing Team (AST) has announced the renewal of its long-term partnership with B&G, the world's leading sailing navigation and instrument specialists, continuing a collaboration that has been critical to the success of the team over the past eight years. More than just a supply agreement, the partnership provides AST coach boats with state-of-the-art B&G electronics and technical support.

Overseas, PT Marina Development Indonesia (MDI), in collaboration with PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo), officially broke ground on the Bali Benoa Marina on 22 May. Excess launched the 100th hull of the Excess 14. Behind this hull are more than 70 passionate staff who have put their expertise to work: from gelcoat to draping, logistics to mechanics, and woodwork. Excess sends a big thank you to all the teams at Le Poiré-sur-Vie shipyard!

The Australian sailing community is mourning the passing of one of its greatest contributors, Hugh Treharne OAM, who died peacefully surrounded by his loving family in Sydney last week.

Treharne will be best recognised for his role as tactician aboard Australia II during its historic 1983 America's Cup victory, where he played an instrumental role in one of the most iconic moments in Australian sporting history. That triumph not only ended the New York Yacht Club's 132-year winning streak, but also elevated sailing to the national stage and inspired a generation of Australians.
