Malcesine turned it on once again for Foiling Week, with four epic days of classic Ora conditions and a record 131 WASZPs hitting the start line - the biggest WASZP fleet ever at the event!
With sailors locked in and looking sharp ahead of the WASZP Games and Weymouth International Championships, the racing was fast, tight, and full of action. Two fleets — the 6.9s and the 7.5-8.2s — battled it out on Lake Garda in some of the most competitive foiling we've seen all season.
Jacopo Andrian came out on top in the 6.9 division, holding off Olivia Castaldi and Leonardo Vanelo in a stacked fleet. Meanwhile, in the 7.5-8.2s, Pablo Astiazaran Perez-Cela took the win ahead of Federico Bergamasco and Mosè Bellomi, with plenty of familiar names pushing hard in the top 10, while Nora Doksrod took out 1st overall in the Women's division.
The new 7.5m sail has proved a winner, with that aspect of the fleet building significantly as we head towards Weymouth and into the future. The fact that the 7.5m can compete with the 8.2m in a lot of conditions has given an extra dimension to the fleet.
The energy around the boat park was next-level, with the WASZP community buzzing as we build toward the big one — Weymouth. But first, the fleet heads across the Atlantic for the Americas Championship in Canada, the final tune-up before the global showdown.
