Yacht Talk: Two-time Hinckley owners making memories aboard their Talaria 43

Owners Andy and Liz Montelli share their Hinckley experience purchasing pre-owned, building new and great times with family and friends on the water.

Andy and Liz Montelli had never considered themselves boat people, but when they moved to Newport, Rhode Island, things started to change. In 2019, they visited the Newport International Boat Show, but Andy was apprehensive. He wanted something that was easy and intuitive, without a steep learning curve. They got to talking to the Hinckley team and discovered the ease of the JetStick control system, which, as Andy says, "takes away all the tension and anxiety." A few months later, the couple placed an offer on a 2015 Picnic Boat 37. Their first season on the water was amazing and, as many Hinckley owners can attest, they were ready for more time and more cabin space. They commissioned a Talaria 43, which was delivered to them in spring 2022.

Name Game

"Our first boat was the 37-foot Picnic Boat, which was built by someone else and was all black. It was so beautiful and we wanted to tie in the color, so we landed on Blackbird, inspired by the wonderful Beatles song. Then with our Talaria 43, we decided to name it Andiamo, which means "let's go" in Italian. Liz is one of seven kids and her father is Italian, and that's what he'd always say to rally them all up: Andiamo!

Summer Highlight

"Every Memorial Day, we bring our boat down to our home in Connecticut and last year Liz said, 'Why don't we take it to New York?" So we went there and stayed in Jersey City for a night, and then we took the boat and circumnavigated the island of Manhattan. You go under all 34 bridges and see the city from the water. It was such an awesome trip. Then we took it back through the Long Island Sound, and up to Newport."

Our Happy Place

"Mackerel Cove is a really wonderful spot near Newport, and it's only a 20-minute trip for us. We love bringing friends there. It ends on the beach, and the water gets shallow so you can drop an anchor and just hang out — read a book, have lunch, go for a swim. We take our grandkids there and blow up a raft and just paddle around for the afternoon."

Favorite Meal

"The boat's continuously stocked with cheese, crackers, hummus, and fruit so we're always able to pull something together pretty quickly. We love having picnics."

Signature Sips

"We make sure we have plenty of beer and wine, and we usually have margaritas ready to go, too."

On the 2025 Docket

"Our daughter lives south of Boston, so we're going to dock there for a couple of days, and then work our way up the coast of Maine to Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor. And we had so much fun on our trip to New York, we've got a lot of friends and family who want to join us this year. And we're going to be sure to hit Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and hopefully boat to the Hamptons to visit some friends."

Curious about the Talaria 43?
