The Interdominion Windsurfer LT event, starting Friday, is to challenge the Australian and Pacific nation Windsurfer LT sailors to show the New Zealand Windsurfer LT sailors how they compare on an international level.

Waiheke Island’s beaches and surrounding islands are ideal for long distance races, and the event will be start from Buckland Beach, the mainland to Oneroa, Waiheke, and then onto Man o' War Bay the next day.

Sailing gets underway on Friday March 21, 2025 through to Sunday, and has has attracted 22 sailors from New Zealand, Australia and USA. New Zealand sailors will not have raced or trained in the area before which removes a local knowledge advantage.

Oneroa Beach on Waiheke is near Auckland City and is a stunning example of New Zealand beaches bordered by large shade providing pohutukawa trees and a range of holiday batches, restaurants, and is close to the ferry to Auckland. Waiheke Island is globally famous for its beaches, wineries and tourism activities. There is a healthy music scene which will ensure the 50% fun side off the water is meet.

The event will be contested in the Windsurfer LT is a development of the original windsurfer used for the demonstration event at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

The Australian Windsurfer LT fleet has multiple world champions dating back to the 1970’s through to the 2023/ 2024 Windsurfer LT World Championships in Perth Australia.

A limited number of charter boards will be available at the event for international sailors, and will be for sale after the event for $3,300. Two new boards may be available for purchase at $3,600. All prices are for a sail away board. Click here for more information
