Tarantella, donated to the Italian Navy, is reborn at the Cantieri Navali di La Spezia

by Barche d'Epoca e Classiche 12 Feb 17:29 GMT

After the recent donation to the Navy, the sailing yacht Tarantella, built in wood in 1969 by the Carlini shipyard in Rimini and designed by Sparkman & Stephens, is being restored at the Cantieri Navali in La Spezia.

The boat, 16.70 meters long, will undergo a restoration of the hull planking to prepare for the season of classic sailing regattas in the Mediterranean. Tarantella has become the fifteenth historic wooden sailboat to join the historic fleet of boats of the Navy. Alongside her, the shipyard hosts other vintage and classic boats, including Alcor from 1964, Jalina from 1946, a sailing launch designed by Carlo Sciarrelli and the yawl Aleph built in Germany in 1951, already protagonist of some Atlantic crossings.
