Saturday 27 April

A chilly grey day greeted 16 Lymington X One Designs for their first race of the season. Mike Cowan and his race team set a beat from the Platform to a moveable mark to the east a long run to A.

The fleet hotly contested the line hard but got away first time albeit Xray and Mayfly were recalled. Mayfly noticed this late and were considerably behind. The leaders hugged the shore to avoid the tide, Barry Dunning's Crumpet got a bit too close but she managed to get afloat without any wading.

Early leaders were Annex and Tortoise who continued to lead at A. On the beat to C the wind shifted and went south with more pressure offshore. Zest used the pressure well and made a huge gain leaping from 7th to first. At the finish it was Zest from Claire de Lunne, Tortoise and Annex. A special mention must go to three generations of the Williams family racing Mersa in 5th place.

Results:

X9 Zest, Phil and Jo Brewer and Debbie Miles
X33 Claire de Lunne, Simon McCarthy Jeremy Baker and Mike Crow
X165 Tortoise, Jonathan Clark and David Duffin
X8 Annex, Martin Sellars Rupert Harding and CC Summerhayes
X34 Mersa, Eric Williams, Jonathan Williams and Nick Williams

Wednesday 1st May

A very shift breeze with a norther westerly fighting with a south westerly and a flood tide presented James Hoare and our race officer and his team a conundrum which he managed well. He set a course of a moveable mark in Oxey lake followed by DBDB and a river finish. From the start James Markby's XRay controlled the fleet from Gill Ellis' Heyday. Barry Dunning's Crumpet and Jonathan Clark'sTortoise made gains on the run to D.

On the beat to B Mayfly chose a good lay line to gain the lead. On the final beat to B Tortoise nearly repeated the same trick. At the river finish the results were as follows

X161 Mayfly, Rory and Amanda Paton and Chris Baldwick
X165 Tortoise, Jonathan Clark, Cy Grisly and David King
X176 Crumpet, Barry and Carol Dunning and Ben McGrane
X117 X Ray, James Markby and David Bedford
X173 Heyday, Gill Ellis, Rupert Anderson and Stuart Lyon
