RS Tera South West Squad Winter Training 2024 concludes at Paignton Sailing Club

by RS Tera Class Association 26 Mar 2024 11:07 GMT 23 March 2024

The last of the South West Tera Squad Winter Squad sessions took place at Paignton Sailing Club on 23rd March. With strong winds forecast, the decision was made to go ahead with a modified session: although the wind was strong, it was westerly and so the sea state was kind.

UK RS Tera Class Association Coach Teddy Dunn lead the coaching of the Tera Squad this weekend, and launched all of his 9 intrepid Tera sailors into strong but manageable breeze. Working in the same sailing area as the SWYSA squad, thus sharing safety cover and resources, the Tera fleet were able to work on strong wind boat handling.

As the wind built, all boats came ashore to let a squall come through. When the wind moderated, some of the sailors went out again for some epic reaches, with others opting to come into safety boats to watch the fun close at hand.

South West Class Association Rep Peter Solly said "It is fantastic to see how the sailors have developed over the winter, both in their skills, but also in their confidence. To have so many sailors launching on Saturday - and all coming back happy and proud - is a real testament to the quality and style of the coaching this year. The squad has a focus on fun first (and skills second), and its obvious that this is paying dividends in developing sailors' enjoyment of the sport."

After a pasta lunch cooked by Paignton Sailing Club, sailors listened to a talk on Nutrition by Teddy, which was very well received. ("I've heard lots of talks about nutrition, and this was way the best," was one comment!)

Thanks to Paignton Sailing Club for hosting, and to all of the coaches and parent volunteers who make these events possible.

A South West Tera Traveller Series is planned for the summer, with 6 events through the South West region. This will be launched in the next couple of weeks - keep an eye on the Facebook page below. If you sail a Tera (or would like to) come and join us! It's fun, supportive and friendly.

And if you aren't sure whether you are ready for something like this, get in touch and ask us.
