Club Fun Regatta 2023 at Lymington Town Sailing Club

by Heather Chipperfield 13 Sep 16:49 BST 9 September 2023

Over the past few years, current RYA Club of the Year, LTSC, has increased its on-the-water activity around four-fold. In an attempt to bring together many of the different groups now racing, training and playing in dinghies, LTSC held a fun regatta on 9 September, open to all club members.

In glorious sunshine and very light winds, Race Officer Dave Gorringe briefed a diverse group of families, juniors, Dangerous Girls, seasoned racers, nervous returners and absolute beginners, before setting a small course in the Solent for the first of three short races.

The course changed for each race to keep us all on our toes, and the racing was great fun, as intended.

A coach boat offered the Regatta Fleet tips and tricks, and this fleet had the opportunity to watch and see how the Club Fleet handled the conditions.

In the 17 boat Regatta Fleet, Alex Breese & Sienna Mordant in a RS Feva took the win, with Robby Mayo (Optimist) and Eve Blatchford (Scow) in second and third. Giles Chipperfield (D-One) led the charge in the Club Fleet.

A great time was had by all, with people getting the opportunity to meet with other members they don't normally collide with (sometimes literally!)
