Tired of the same commute every day? Dreaming of escaping to glistening waters and beautiful sunsets with a group of like-minded people? Then why not sign up to the Parkinson’s Disease Society’s (PDS) Sail the Island in May to experience the ultimate journey around the Isle of Wight.
Now in its third year, Sail the Island takes both novice and experienced sailors alike to the Solent to learn how to crew a 37-foot yacht and then circumnavigate the Isle of Wight. This year’s adventure takes place from 11 to 14 May and up to 120 places are available.
Over the weekend, participants in crews of six will be given just one day to practise their sailing skills before being challenged to complete a circuit around the Isle of Wight.
Hugo Middlemas, Director of Fundraising at the PDS said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for both novice and established sailors to experience the thrill of racing a 37-foot yacht whilst raising money for people with Parkinson’s. Last year, over 90 people helped make Sail the Island 2006 a huge success, and we’re hoping this year will be even better, with 120 places available on 20 yachts.”
The fundraising challenge aims to raise £55,000 for people with Parkinson’s across the UK. Partners for the event are ‘Spirit Sailing’ - a Royal Yachting Association accredited sailing school based in the Solent.
The PDS is looking for people keen to take part in this fundraising event. To get involved or to find out more information, please contact Clare Chater on 020 7963 9312 or email events@parkinsons.org.uk . Alternatively, you can visit our website at www.parkinsons.org.uk/sailing
