Spectacular turn out at the 2021 Wing Foil Cup kicking off the Australian Summer. 22 Wing Foilers took to the flat foiling waters of Sorrento (VIC) hosted by Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club.

This event is the first successful wing foil racing event in Australia and proved to be great demonstration of how exciting and fast wing foil racing is. The event boasted a large variance of age and experience with everyone still managing to enjoy the racing format. The youngest competitor was 15 years with the oldest 55 years, a testament to the inclusion of the class.

The conditions were a solid 12-17 knots across the racing weekend enabling a full 11 races to be completed in the series. A nail bitting finish was witnessed at the top end of the fleet with the top 2 racers finishing up equal first. Jack Abbott was awarded 1st place by countback, Lachie White 2nd place and Leigh Thorne 3rd Place. First female was awarded to Caitlin Baxter who completed a consistent series. There were smiles all weekend as we saw some spectacular duels and major improvements through the racing fleet.

This event is the initial event of the Kiteboarding Australia Summer Series. Victoria will also host the Inaugural Australian Wing Foil National Titles during the Sail Melbourne event 14th January - 16th January 2022, entries are now open.

All summer racing details are available online through Kiteboarding Australia.
