When planning the event Class Captain David Lean made the bold decision to make it a members only week with a small entry fee to reward the loyal keelboat sailors at South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club for the previous season when sailing was severely curtailed.

His faith and optimism paid off with a strong entry of 42 boats all owned by members and some great sponsorship from Rybrook Land Rover Conwy, W&G Williams, Firmhelm, Partington Marine and the Abersoch Boatyard.

Sunday's practice day was exactly that, a shake down for many crews. The race office team, led by Malcolm Blackburn, did not put a foot wrong all week in very light and tricky conditions, somehow managing to get a series of 6 races for the fleets.

IRC 1 (8 boats)

1st Imposter
2nd Mojito
3rd Luvly Jubbly

IRC 2 (9 boats)

1st Injenious
2nd Only Magic
3rd Harlequin

A couple of notable performances by Jaya winning race 1 and the classic She Too with two race wins.

Small keelboats (12 entries)

1st Wil 2 Win
2nd Panic
3rd Jester

The small keel boats were greatly enhanced by the Pandora's and a sole Squib that together with the Beneteau 21's made for a competitive fleet.

The successful Pandora fleet is largely due to Class Captain Steve and the versatile and very hands on Martyn Hudson. For his efforts Martyn was awarded the Paul Kearns One Life memorial trophy along with the loan of a Landrover for a weekend by Rybrook Land Rover Conwy.

The White Sail fleet or "The Gentlemen's Class" (12 entries)

1st Roxhopper
2nd Sloe Gin
3rd Crud Yr Awel

Always a popular fleet with some boats venturing on to the race course for the first time this season.

Great to see Pegasus, Mistral and Wild Thyme entering in to the spirit of the week. Flicka is a very pretty and beautifully maintained classic yacht and was well sailed all week by the Haskayne family.

Next year's event will be the last full week in August as always but watch out for some interesting new ideas and race formats.
