Not just a passing FAD
by DPIPWE Fishing 13 May 2021 07:05 BST
Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) are structures placed in the ocean to attract species such as yellowtail kingfish and tunas. In February, three FADs were trialled off the East Coast, two in Coles Bay and one near Binalong Bay.
At the end of April they were retrieved to avoid interactions with migrating whales. They will be re-deployed in December along with more FADs at locations around Tasmania, including Freycinet and south east of Pirates Bay.
If you went fishing near them, please give us feedback about your experiences. If you didn't but are interested in FADs, tell us your views on future deployments.
