Twenty two National Twelves took to the water at Yeadon Sailing Club on 8th October for the second day of the combined ANEYC meeting held in conjunction with Ripon Sailing Club.
Race one started on a well-contested start line and immediately Graham and Zoe Camm had to take penalty turns, however this made little difference to the result as they sailed through the fleet into an impressive lead. Second were Philip & Helen David with John & Alison Cheetham third.
After one general recall in race two the fleet got away with the Davids pressing Graham and Zoe for the first two laps until Graham and Zoe sailed clear. The battle for third was resolved only yards from the finish when the Cheethams came out on top of a close tacking battle with the Simpsons.
For race three Graham and Zoe having won the meeting opted to sail Howard Chadwicks beautifully restored N2. The Davids led initially but a tricky mark rounding allowed Clark/Benn through into first followed by Brian Herring and Ros Stevenson in the vintage N1673. The Cheethams managed to overhaul the Davids to finish third. Graham and Zoe remarkably sailed N2 into seventh place, proving that, to quote Howard Chadwick, the way to speed up an old boat is to fit a twin Camm engine.
Overall Results:
1st 3492 Graham Camm & Zoe Camm (Burghfield)
2nd 3217 Philp David & Helen David (YOSC)
3rd 3220 Bernard Clark & Philip Benn (YOSC/Ripon)
