Three races in a shifting North-Westerly ten knot breeze meant lots of place
changing for the twenty-three Squibs on Saturday, only to be replaced by an
equally fickle south-wester on Sunday. Despite some fifty degree shifts,
neap tides at least helped the Hamble River Sailing Club team (led by PRO
Simon Hand) supply some good windward-leeward courses.
Undaunted by the conditions, Royal Yorkshire YC's Gerard Dyson crewed by Adam
Saltonstall aboard 'Alchemy' showed consistent form to defend their South
Coast title. They took three wins in the five race series. Close behind was
the vintage No73 'Brimstone' of Brian and Jenny Riley from Oulton Broad,
winners of Race 4. Third overall was Dick Batt and Pam Phelan's 'Battalion'
from Hayling Island. The other race winners, Peter White and Max Evans
from Felixstowe Ferry, slipped to sixth overall after being OCS in the final
race.
