The RYA is delighted to announce the launch of RYA Audiobooks, the latest addition to the already extensive range of print and digital RYA publications.

Audiobooks have seen a massive increase in popularity in recent years, with the new and accessible format offering 'readers' convenience and the opportunity to listen on the go.

RYA Publications Manager, Steen Ingerslev commented: "As well as the obvious accessibility benefits, audiobooks represent a huge growth area in the market, providing us with an opportunity to expand our offer and reach a broader audience.

"We are working with a number of different platforms to ensure the new audiobook titles are as widely available as possible. So however you prefer to listen, you're likely to find the RYA Audiobooks there."

The RYA Yachtmaster Handbook (A-G70) and RYA VHF Handbook (A-G31) are the first two titles to be made available in the new format, with additional publications expected to be released in the future.

"We know that people love engaging content and learn more effectively with a compelling sensory experience," explains Steen. "Narrators of audiobooks can use vocal range and add exclamation or dramatic intent to their voices, creating a more powerful and memorable experience than if a person was to read a book and hear the words in their head.

"A lot of our content is highly illustrated and some will not be suitable as audiobooks. Rather than replacing the print or eBook formats, the aim is to provide a useful and easily accessible companion and supporting tool."

The RYA produce an extensive range of more than 100 industry-leading publications and eBooks. As well as course books and log books that directly support the world-renowned RYA training courses, there are a number of additional titles for boaters seeking further knowledge and development in a range of different areas.

RYA Director of Training and Qualifications, Richard Falk concluded: "It's so important for us to keep moving forward, developing the very best resources for both RYA instructors and training candidates, but also providing aids to increase knowledge, confidence and safety for all water users. We know that everyone learns differently and hope that by embracing new technologies and formats, we'll be able to deliver the expertise and guidance we're known for, in an accessible format, to an even wider audience."

The RYA Yachtmaster Handbook and RYA VHF Handbook audiobooks are available to download now from all the standard audiobook channels, including Apple Books, Google Books and Audible. Pricing varies across the different platforms and subscriptions.

The RYA Audiobooks are also available to download from Authors Direct, where you can browse the full collection.
