Sunday saw the start of the National Championships 2006 for the clipper-built Redwings at Tenby. The Redwing is a two-man dinghy with the crew out on a trapeze for the beat.
Thirteen boats went out to the start line for the first race but Desmond Hocking and Colin Crabb (R241 Shamrock) were unable to complete the race because of a problem with the jib.
Roger Hocking and Dominic Lozynski (R243 Celtic Warrior) had led all the way but first through the line was R195 Sallyforth - a local boat sailed by Mike Stace and Deanna Morton who had taken part in the club racing on Saturday evening. Roger and Dominic were second, Ben and John Crabb (R245 Shytalk) third followed by Rowland Squibbs and Marc Shepherd (R244 Dragon) in fourth place.
With very little time between races and R241 fit to sail, race 2 got underway. Roger and Dominic led the fleet at the windward mark and after a few place changes took first place closely followed by Ben and John. Rowland and Marc were third and Des and Colin were fourth.
Six races are planned for the week, one every day with the exception of Tuesday.
